Has relevance to: Managing my pressures! (FT102); Dealing with personal setbacks (FZ101);

covers:

… what does the deer do?
… what are the desired behaviors?
… what are some quick-fixes (band-aids) to get started on the do&learn?
… what are some do&learn ideas to implement over time?

what does the deer do?

Do something of a Deer

  • is a successful animal - and the one you are most likely to see (if you go to a jungle these days)

  • every ready to get into action - at the slightest sound is up and running (even sleeps standing up :))

what are the desired behaviors?

  • you take action to minimize the chance that things turn out poorly

  • you take action to improve chances that things turn out ok

  • you take action to prevent the setback from affecting other areas of work/ life

  • you take action to prevent the setback from lasting any longer than necessary

  • you take action to get past the setback as painlessly and as quickly as possible

what are some band-aids to get started on the do&learn?

  • teach yourself, 'If I don't ask, I will not get...'

  • if it doubt about the whole action plan, formulate your 'first steps' and get going!

  • identify milestones in your actions - put them on a specific dateline.

what are some do&learn ideas to implement over time?

In tough times ... be SCARED!

  • if you are in a sedentary job, take up a regular physical activity

  • if you will to action is sapped, see if you can reduce the gaps between your thoughts, your speech and your actions (say as your thinking, do as you say, do not say what you do not think [is true], do not say one thing and do another thing)

  • practise awareness exercises to be in the present moment. many times inaction comes from dwelling too much in the past or in the future and not being aware of the present moment
