advise on how to listen to any information input (meeting, presentation, book ...)

This is from stephen covey's 8th habit...

he writes on page 340:
"Another very interesting and helpful learning style is to break down the presentations you hear or books you read into four areas:

1. First, purpose;
2. Second, main point;
3. Third, validation - in other words, evidence;
4. Fourth, application - in other words, examples and stories."

He further writes, "I have found that by training your mind to think in this way while you listen or read, it is amazing how well and accurately you can capture and understand the material .."
